In a move that recalls the flashy tough-guy image of super rich mobsters with an affinity for all things gold, Karatbars has hired actor Joey Ciccone to be their new spokesperson in the US.
Joey Ciccone has made a career out of playing mobsters in movies, TV, and commercials and now the act is real as he personally gets involved in the high-rolling world of gold ownership.
Best known for his roles in the films The Waterdance (1992) and American Yakuza (1993), Ciccone will be featured in an online promotion of Karatbars, who are only recently gaining a foothold in the American marketplace.
Mr. Ciccone hopes the online gig will grow into national campaigns, as more of the US public learns about Karatbars and becomes accustomed to the idea of investing in gold.
The Karatbars Idea
Growth shouldn’t be a problem with Karatbars. The company is built on the concept that anyone should be able to buy gold, not just rich people (and mobsters). The “bars” come in 1-gram denominations, which cost in the neighborhood of $50 at the time of this writing.
One gram of gold looks like a micro chip, so they’re embedded on a credit card-like piece of plastic and sometimes marketed with lifetime event messages like “Happy Birthday” or “Happy Anniversary”.
According to Joey Ciccone, Karatbars are a no-brainer investment for anyone desiring to diversify their portfolio (and not just mobsters who want to hide their income from the government or from their enemies). As he puts it:
“You’re liquidating your cash into gold. This is very big in Europe…Instead of investing in stocks, you’re investing in gold.”
-Joey Ciccone, Karatbars Spokesman
Karatbars is indeed bigger in Europe, where everyday people have been buying the tiny bars of gold for years now. The gold comes from well-known and respected precious metals companies, complete with certificates of authenticity. The gold is 99.9 fine gold and comes in 1g, 2.5g and 5g minted 24 karat gold ingots. The refineries are accredited by LBMA (The London Bullion Market Association).
Until recently, Karatbars has focused on markets outside the US for its sales and for attracting affiliates for its distribution network. Now, with the addition of Mr. Ciccone to the team, they hope to speak to US consumers in their own language, one that uses plainspeak. His charisma and communication skills are exactly what the marketing team at Karatbars was looking for.
Karatbars & Joey Ciccone, the Perfect Match
Karatbars is impressed with the presence of Ciccone, who manages to draw an immediate connection with his audiences wherever he goes. Even his car is part of the image: a 1982 Cadillac Eldorado plays right into the tough-guy image. It’s been used in movies such as “Goodfellas”, “Donnie Brasco”, “Casino” and more.
Ciccone himself has in impressive lineup of movie credits, including:
- Carlito’s Way
- Rocky VI
- Mission: Impossible III
- Gangs of New York
He also had a part playing mob boss on CSI: Las Vegas, then a part in The Las Vegas Mob Experience, a show at the Tropicana. Mr. Ciccone is also a jazz singer.
